# Poise | Posture Coach

Poise is a native macOS posture coach that reads head tilt from AirPods - a fog rises from the bottom of the screen while the head hangs, and an estimate of neck load times short guided neck breaks.

## The slouch, caught early.

Poise reads the tilt of the AirPods you already wear while you work. Let your head hang over the keyboard and the ring in the menu bar fills from green to red, and a soft fog rises from the bottom of the screen until you sit up. When your neck has had enough, a notification offers a three-minute break, and an otter in AirPods shows you each move. Nothing to wear but your AirPods, no account, and no head angle ever leaves your Mac.

### How it works

1. Put in your AirPods and keep working. In the first two minutes Poise learns how you sit upright - no calibration needed.
2. When your head stays down, the menu bar ring turns red and a fog rises from the bottom of the screen; lift your head and it clears.
3. As your neck tires, a notification offers a short break. The otter shows each move and your AirPods count the reps.

## When to use it

### Long stretches at the keyboard

Heads sink slowly during focused work. Poise waits for a drop that lasts before the fog comes up, so a glance at the keyboard sets nothing off.

### Working on a laptop

A low screen pulls the head down. The popover shows how far it has dropped and the weight the neck is holding at that angle, from about 5 kg upright to over 20.

### Calls and meetings

While Zoom, Teams, FaceTime or Webex is in front, the fog and the sound stay off and a due break waits for the call to end. Counting goes on.

### A neck that aches by the afternoon

Poise estimates how tired the neck is getting and offers a break before it gets sore: seven moves in about three minutes, each one skippable.

### Seeing the pattern

Today, 7 and 30 days of stats show the upright share, slouches, breaks and the hours the slouching gathers in. A weekly summary arrives once a week.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which AirPods work?

Any that report head motion to a Mac: AirPods Pro, AirPods (3rd generation and later), AirPods Max and Beats models with head tracking. Other Bluetooth headphones get a note that Poise cannot read them.

### Does it use my camera?

No. Poise reads posture only from the motion sensors in your AirPods. It asks for two permissions: Motion & Fitness for the coach and Notifications for the break reminder.

### Do I have to calibrate it?

No. In the first two minutes Poise learns how you sit upright and keeps learning as you work. A calibration by hand is there as a shortcut, never a requirement.

### Where does my posture data go?

Nowhere. History is kept on this Mac for 60 days, one file per day. Head angles never leave it, and there is no account.

### Is this medical advice?

No. The neck load is an estimate built on published head-weight figures and is labelled as one. Stop any move that hurts.

### How much does Poise cost?

$11.99 as a one-time purchase with a 30-day free trial. No card and no email are needed to start it. Future updates are included.
